Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta will be free for existing players

When Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 10 launches later this month on the 29th, existing Minecraft players will have exclusive beta access to the new Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition.

Mojang claim that this is a ‘new version’ of Minecraft built especially for Windows 10 and will receive free updates over time including native controller, touch and keyboard controls, dual-wielding and a new ‘End City’ location. The Windows 10 Edition will also offer cross-platform play with Minecraft: Pocket Edition players.

Not much else is known about the new edition at this point, but it seems to just be a simple port of the original Minecraft optimised for Windows 10 with a few small updates, guess we’ll find out on the 29th. New players will be able to purchase the beta for $10.

Personally I would have preferred a full Minecraft sequel rather than just another special ‘edition’ with a few lacklustre updates, what do you think?
