#5 WILL SHOCK YOU! THESE VIDEOS WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU SEE GAMES FOREVER! PARENTS HATE THEM!
Blaaarrrrggh. Okay, I’m glad I could get that out of my system, my IQ feels lower having just typed out that headline. But what’s wrong with a little satire once in a while?
No, don’t worry. OK Games has not already become a degenerate clickbait site by the likes of BuzzFeed and Gawker, driven by misleading headlines, top 5 articles, stolen content and manufactured outrage. But we did want an excuse to share with you some of our favourite Grand Theft Auto V PC videos because why not?
It’s been 2 weeks since Grand Theft Auto V was released for the PC, along with the debut of the Rockstar Editor, a powerful tool built into the game exclusive to the PC version which gives users a feature-rich and robust tool to capture, edit and share in-game footage.
A lot has happened in these short two weeks. We’ve already seen many mods released for the game, from simple additions like turn signals for your car to the ability to play as one of the many animals found in the game. We’ve also seen a wealth of user-created videos produced that are quickly spreading around the internet like wildfire.
We’ve gone ahead and collected some of our favourites and organised them into an essentially meaningless top 10 list to make it a little easier to digest, in true disposable clickbait fashion.
10. “Things will be different”
Starting us off at #10 is “Things Will Be Different”, a recreation and parody of the very first trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV back in 2008! I still remember getting up at 7am on a weekday morning before school and trying to watch the original trailer on Rockstar’s official website, struggling to load it on my pathetic 512K Australian internet connection. Those were the days.. actually, my internet is still terrible so we haven’t actually come that far really. Thanks, Tony.
9. “GTA V Map”
Accompanied by the stunning soundtrack to ‘Interstellar‘, this video shows off the incredibly vast and vibrant state of San Andreas. Showcasing the many weather effects and day/night cycles the game has to offer as well as truly highlighting the power of the PC. Uncreative title aside, the music really tops it off.
8. “Harold’s Day Off”
Join 96 year old Harold as he enjoys a little R&R at Vespucci Beach. A beautiful day for jet skiing, punching out roided-up meatheads and good old fashioned American patriotism.
7. “The beauty of a GTA V bug”
#7 brings us one user’s experience with a bug they encountered at a busy intersection. Paired with the memorably haunting music of the original ‘Dead Island’ trailer. (Boy, what a disappointment that game was.) Lyk dis if u cry evry tiem :'(
6. “GTA Bayhem!”
“Sometimes we just need to blow off a little steam….”
A truly magnificent and classic rampage, a staple of the Grand Theft Auto series. The camera work in this video is done incredibly well, capturing the absolute mayhem of a down-town massacre with plenty of explosions. Like a Michael Bay movie but with talent.
5. “PSA: Everyone can hear you flirting with strippers on GTA V”
In Grand Theft Auto Online, players can visit the strip club and receive a private dance if they wish. However if they want to flirt with a stripper, the game requires you to talk through your headset. Apparently one guy wasn’t aware that the whole lobby could hear him attempting to woo this virtual dancer, luckily this guy got it all on film. Okay, so technically this video isn’t made with the Rockstar Editor, nor was it even captured on a PC. But hey, we did say #5 will shock you, consider yourself shocked.
4. “The Largest Mammal on Land”
The finest example of the beauty of modding. Watch as a giant whale finds its way out of the deep sea and terrorises the metropolitan streets of Los Santos to the classic tune of Offenbach’s ‘Orpheus in the Underworld‘.
3. “Vengeful Cop”
At #2 is a little moment captured by one user that shows off some of the crazy things that unfold every day in San Andreas. In this case the relentlessly brutal AI of the Los Santos Police Department. Completely ridiculous and completely hilarious.
2. “Vinewood Now”
“Vinewood Now” is a little more experimental but definitely pays off. A tribute to old documentaries and a different look at Rockstar’s satire take on Hollywood. Some top-class editing here and exceptional cinematography.
1. “Running, man”
“Running, Man” was the first and in my opinion the best Rockstar Editor video, commissioned by Rockstar Games themselves. YouTube channel 8-Bit Bastard had the honour of producing the very first Rockstar Editor video and they absolutely nailed it. This video was released several days before Grand Theft Auto V for PC and it made the final few days of waiting that much harder. These guys produce some serious quality content every week so you should definitely check them out.
Despite this list being mostly a joke and not reflecting any sort of official ranking apart from #1, there were a few videos that just wouldn’t fit into my top 10 so here are a few honourable mentions.
A parody of #1’s “Running, Man”. I wanted to place “Running, Fatty” into the list somewhere but being a parody of what was easily going to be my #1, it had to be excluded from the list. Extremely well-done none the less.
“You Try to be Nice”
While not especially well-made (I find the use of filters a little too much), I got a good laugh out of this one.
“10 hours of walking in Los Santos as a Cat”
A parody of a popular video that recently went viral of a woman filmed walking around the city being “cat-called” by a number of people. This video, while a little late, definitely gave me a few chuckles.
“Health & Wellness”
A Public Service Announcement from the City of Los Santos about the dangers of smoking in public. Short, sweet and incredibly funny. Much like this description, minus the funny.
Thanks for reading and we’re sorry for luring you in with the promise of irresistible clickbait. Of course, this is only the beginning as far as video content and modding go for Grand Theft Auto V, we’ve only just hit the tip of the ice berg and the best is probably yet to come. We’re incredibly excited to see what else the talented community will produce.
We’ve almost certainly left out some of the best videos out there, so if your favourite wasn’t on the list, please share it with us below!
