I can’t believe it’s not Battlefront!
One of the biggest announcements to come out of EA’s 2018 E3 Press Conference was the confirmation that Respawn’s Star Wars title is still being developed under the title of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
The ten-year deal EA signed with Disney back in 2013 ensured that the corporate giant would be the only publisher putting out new Star Wars titles in the near future. What was initially a promising partnership has lead to the cancellation of a handful of promising projects leaving fans of the Sci-Fi franchise understandably disappointed. However, 2017’s Battlefront II was finally the straw that broke the camels back, with many reporting that Star Wars parent company, Disney, had lost faith in the California-based publisher.
While attempts have been made to protect the property from negative criticism, it’s been made clear that fans are not pleased with EA’s treatment of the source material. Nevertheless, the few juicy nuggets of information dropped during the conference are sure to have fans theorising over the next year.
Where does it take place?
Fallen Order has been confirmed to take place during the 19 year gap between between Episodes 3 and 4 of the film franchise. Described by developer Vince Zampella as a “dark time” for the Jedi, players will assume the role of the judicious protectors during a time-period where the Jedi were hunted by the Galactic Empire.
What kind of gameplay can I expect?
Although Respawn made their name developing tight First-Person action games, Fallen Order is confirmed to be a Third-Person title with a large focus on lightsaber combat. At first I was apprehensive, Titanfall 2 is my go-to shooter, but it didn’t seem like the best fit for the team. However, after considering their experience with fast, engaging and often vertical combat scenarios my anxiety began to subside.
If there’s anyone who can truely nail the acrobatic duels of the prequel trilogy it’d be Respawn.
When can I play it?
It was confirmed that we’ll be getting our hands on Respawn’s Fallen Order Holiday 2019. Although I have some reservations about the date…
What do we think of it?
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has me torn. On one hand it’s a AAA Star Wars game with a large focus on lightsaber combat (yes!), but on the other we are still yet to see any footage of the game. It’s still quite a way off yet, but for a title that’s been in development for a couple years now, it’s more than a little concerning that we haven’t even had a glimpse of what the game looks like yet.
Also, I can’t be the only one who thinks that name is incredibly clunky, right?
